Renovation Pruning: A Hands-On Workshop at Berry Botanic Garden
Are your rhodies out of control, once-small shrubs covering your windows, badly-pruned plants looking like gumballs? Learn to work with nature to correct these problems. Starting with a short classroom session on how plants grow and respond to pruning, you will move to the grounds of Berry Botanic Garden to work on their shrubs. You will come away with knowledge and skills on what, when, where and how to prune for a more esthetically pleasing and healthy garden. Instructor Stuart Burns has his own pruning business in Portland. He honed his skills at the Portland Japanese Garden for many years.

Annual Meeting & Marvin Black Memorial Lecture: Full-Frontal Gardening
Save the morning of Saturday,
March 27, for HPSO's annual meeting
celebrating 25 fantastic years of
gardening together. Our speaker will be
the wonderful, multi-talented Lucy
Hardiman, writer, garden designer,
speaker, photographer, tour guide and
past HPSO president. The title of Lucy's
talk is "Full-Frontal Gardening." As
many of you know, Lucy has long been a
proponent of creating inviting spaces in
our often under-used front gardens. Her
own garden in Southeast Portland is an
excellent example of how a front garden
can express the personality of the
gardener, welcome the interaction of
those who pass by, and create a sense
of connection and community in the
urban environment.
In addition to Lucy's talk there will
be an election of new Officers and
Directors, and retiring president Bruce
Wakefield will speak about the state of
the society. There will also be a special
surprise fundraiser for the HPSO grants
fund. Of course, botanicals will be on
display and seeds and books will be
available for sale. Please join us for a
fun-filled morning.
Kaul Auditorium, Reed College, Portland Directions
Program begins at 9 a.m. Doors open at 8 am for Silent Auction and book and seed sales
