HPSO provides a wide variety of activities and benefits to its members, including:

Publications

Offerings include the monthly Newsletters with the latest notices and calendar of local events, the twice annual Bulletin with horticultural articles contributed by members, annual Open Garden Book for informal tours of members' private gardens and nurseries, a membership directory available upon request, and this internet website.

Program Lectures

HPSO presents four or more slide lectures featuring prominent national and local horticultural speakers each year. This includes the Annual Meeting in March, which is free and open to members only. Members receive discounted prices at all other programs.

Plant Sales

Held in April and September each year, these two-day extravaganzas are not to be missed. Over 70 participating growers offer a huge selection of both hard-to-find and common hardy plants including perennials, trees and shrubs. Members have the opportunity to volunteer at the sale and shop before it opens to the public.

Book Sales

A wide selection of horticultural books offered at discounted prices at most programs.

Seed Sales

A varying selection of garden and wild seeds collected by members and sold at most programs and the office.

Library

An extensive selection of horticultural books, periodicals and videos for reference and member-only check-out through the HPSO office.

The Elaine Joines Memorial Grants Program

Awards funds to local horticultural projects.

Interest and Study Groups

Small personal groups within HPSO with regional or specific focus provide a way to become acquainted with other members as well as a resource for plant information.

Study Weekend

This three-day long event is hosted in Portland by HPSO every four years. Groups in Eugene, Seattle and Vancouver or Victoria BC host the other years. Features include a diverse selection of speakers, tours of private gardens and workshops.
