Study Weekends
2009 Study Weekend in British Columbia was a great success! Terrific speakers, glorious gardens, exciting plant sales! Thank you and congratulations to the Victoria Horticultural Society and all the volunteers who worked long and hard to make it such a super event! Mark your calendars now for 2010, June 18-21, Bellevue (near Seattle), Washington. 2010 Study Weekend Information.
Each year the horticultural organizations in the Pacific Northwest sponsor a study weekend, open to anyone seriously interested in gardening. The weekend is normally the end of June and is a great opportunity to meet fellow gardeners, hear fabulous speakers (national and international), tour gardens, buy books and plants, and attend workshops. Each study weekend is limited to about 400 participants. Information is dispensed from the sponsoring organization to the fellow horticultural groups. Because of the limited number who can enroll, prompt registration is necessary. Many are turned away each year.
In 2007, the weekend was in Portland, Oregon, sponsored by the Hardy Plant Society of Oregon. The Study Weekend for 2008, sponsored by the Willamette
Valley Hardy Plant Group, was in Eugene, Oregon. In 2009, the Study Weekend was in
Sidney, British Columbia, sponsored by the Hardy Plant Group of the Victoria Horticultural
Society. And in 2010, the Study Weekend will be in
Bellevue, Washington, sponsored by the Northwest Perennial Alliance. The weekend rotates between these organizations/locations,
with the exception that the Canadian venue is shared by the Hardy Plant
Group of the Victoria Horticultural
Society in Victoria and the Vancouver Hardy Plant Group in Vancouver, each of which sponsors every other
4 years. So the 2009 program was in Victoria and back to Vancouver
in 2013.
