Agave lovers, join us for a program with author Jeff Moore to discover new, unique varieties to grow in your PNW garden or greenhouse!

Jeff will explore established and new hybrids, as well as the relatively new phenomenon of mangaves. Additionally, he'll show examples of agaves in the landscape as well as those suitable for container culture, pests/diseases, and agave propagation. Although the emphasis is on agaves as ornamentals, he'll take a look at the history of agaves as commercial plants, for fiber, food, and of course the genus’ most well known byproduct - tequila and mescal. From an ornamental perspective, there are some beautiful detailed images of agave spines and imprinting, as well as some of the more impressive variegated and collector forms.

About Jeff

Jeff has owned and operated Solana Succulents, north of San Diego, California, since 1992. It is a small retail specialty nursery, and he carries as much of the rare and unusual as possible, along with more common and colorful succulents. He has written five books, including Under the Spell of Succulents, Aloes and Agaves, Soft Succulents, Spiny Succulents, and Agaves - Species, Cultivars and Hybrids.
