Giving to HPSO

Your gift to HPSO makes a difference!

A charitable gift to The Hardy Plant Society of Oregon helps the organization achieve its mission of nurturing the gardening community through many educational activities for members, as well as through grants to schools and other non-profit organizations and through scholarships to horticultural and landscape technology students.

LUCY HARDIMAN PERENNIAL FUND
Created in 2019 to ensure the long-term financial health and stability of The Hardy Plant Society of Oregon and the continuance of its activities from year to year, this fund was renamed in 2022 to honor Lucy Hardiman, a past HPSO president (1996-2000) and longtime volunteer and supporter of the organization.

PARKER SANDERSON FUND
This fund makes it possible to bring renowned horticulturalists to the Portland area for educational activities including speaker programs. It is named in honor of the late Parker Sanderson, co-founder of Cistus Design Nursery. Cistus is located on Sauvie Island and offers climate-adapted plants from around the world.

HPSO has specific funds supporting grants and scholarships.

  • ELAINE JOINES MEMORIAL GRANTS FUND
This program supports non-profit organizations throughout Oregon and Clark County, Washington whose projects are consistent with HPSO’s mission-vision-values. Named in memory of Elaine Joines, designer and curator of the Martha Springer Botanical Garden at Willamette University.
  • BRUCE WAKEFIELD SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Provides scholarships to students who are studying in the Landscape Technology programs at Portland Community College, Rock Creek, and Clackamas Community College.
